Suspect Who Stole Jewelry From Her Friend Identified

The purse went missing on October 20.

Last month, a Jackson County woman reported that she had lost a purse at a North Thomas Street restaurant, a purse that contained $50,000 worth of jewelry. Her husband and she had eaten dinner and celebrated with friends at Square One Fish Company.

According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, some of the stolen jewelry has been found in a pawn shop in Winder. And the person who allegedly pawned the jewelry was a woman in the group of friends at the restaurant on the evening of October 20.

The story says the suspect has been identified but hasn't yet been taken into custody. She will be charged with felony theft by taking.

The Jackson County woman told authorities she had a jewelry bag in her purse that evening which contained a wedding ring, an engagement ring with a 2-carat emerald-cut diamond, two loose diamonds, a pearl necklace, a diamond cocktail ring, earrings, bracelets and other jewelry, the story says.

The woman and her husband were in their car and on their way home when she remembered she didn't have her purse. They returned to the restaurant but couldn't locate it, the story says.
