Watkinsville Police: Elderly Driver Strikes Bank With Oldsmobile

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville police department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Around noon on Saturday, Feb. 11, the driver of a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero struck the rear of the Oconee State Bank building at 35 North Main Street. No one was injured.

The 91-year-old driver advised that her foot slipped off the brake pedal causing the car to roll forward.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the other incidents that police responded to during the week ending Feb. 12.

  • On Feb. 6, police responded to Colham Ferry Road after a 2008 Ford Ranger was hit from behind by a 2010 Toyota Camry. No one was injured. A 74-year-old Oconee County resident was cited with following too closely.
  • A 2010 Nissan Frontier was bumped from behind by a 2001 Ford Focus on Experiment Station Road at North Main Street on Feb. 6. Neither driver was injured and only minor damage was reported.
  • A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu bumped the back of a 1994 Honda Accord as they were both exiting the parking lot onto Experiment Station Road on Feb. 6. No one was injured.
  • On Wednesday afternoon, police were called to First Street, just off Whitehall Road. A 2005 Acura MDX backed into the street and struck a 2003 Honda Civic. No one was injured. A 62-year-old Winterville man was cited with improper backing.
  • A Friday morning traffic stop resulted in charges filed against a Bogart man. Just before 2 a.m., police stopped a 2007 Nissan 350-Z for traveling at a high rate of speed on Whitehall Road.Β  A 30-year-old female resident of Brookshire Drive was arrested and charged with DUI and speeding.
  • On Saturday about 11:30 a.m.,Β  a 2004 Toyota Sienna was hit from behind by a 2004 Toyota Camry on Experiment Station Road at North Main Street. No one was injured. A 51-year-old female resident of Beverly Drive was charged with following too closely.
  • At 11:15 Saturday night, police were called to a domestic situation at a VFW Drive apartment address. A father and son were arguing over an overnight guest that the father did not approve of.
  • Sunday morning around 3 a.m., police stopped the driver of a 2010 Dodge Charger for traveling at a high rate of speed on Whitehall Road.Β  A 20-year-old Myrtle Beach, South Carolina woman was charged with DUI and speeding.Β

Police responded to a total of 36 calls within city limits between Monday, Feb. 6 and Sunday, Feb. 12.
