Heart of the Community honorees announced (wrganews.com) — Eight Rome residents will be honored as “unsung heroes” at the Heart of the Community Foundation’s black-tie gala on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at The Forum River Center. The long-running event, sponsored by AdventHealth Redmond, will feature a reception, dinner, awards, and post-party, with proceeds supporting renovations at the Wanda Whitten Heart House.
   

2. Arrest reports for December 15 (wrganews.com) — Several recent arrests involving Rome and Floyd County residents include an East Rome man accused of threatening another man with a gun on Turner McCall Boulevard and a North Rome man charged with felony marijuana possession. Other cases detail alleged family violence, child cruelty, and a conspiracy to smuggle drug-soaked “strips” into Floyd County Prison, highlighting ongoing local public safety concerns.
   

3. U.S. News & World Report recognizes twice as many Georgia hospitals for best maternity care, access (gpb.org) — Rome’s Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center has been named one of Georgia’s seven best hospitals for maternity care by U.S. News & World Report, reflecting strong outcomes on C-sections and newborn complications. The report shows Georgia more than doubled its recognized hospitals this year, though the state still struggles with high preterm birth rates overall.
   

4. Blanchard, Hernandez take top area awards (northwestgeorgianews.com) — Rome’s inaugural flag football team capped a breakout season with major Area 7-Division 2 honors, led by standout players Lilly Blanchard and Melanie Hernandez. Eight Wolves earned all-area recognition and scholar-athlete nods, highlighting a strong foundation for the growing program and giving Rome fans plenty to cheer about.
