Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:
- The Sept. 1 deadline for residents of the 199 Grove Way Apartments is steadily approaching. Residents are being forced to relocate after the city of Roswell deemed their building structurally unsound. The community, of mostly senior citizens, is owned by the Housing Authority of Roswell. Residents say they are having trouble finding landlords who will take their Section 8 vouchers or finding communities that don't have long waiting lists. HUD has hired the Leumas Group to provide administrative support to the residents during this time. (appenmediagroup.com)
- The city of Roswell's Parks & Recreations and the Historic and Cultural Affairs departments are to asking residents to help them celebrate the end of the summer season and the new school year. They have partnered with The International Atlanta Night Market to host this community event at East Roswell Park on Aug 13. There will be food trucks, inflatables, live entertainment, diversity, and international experiences. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. (roswellgov.org)
- An Alpharetta man, Raheel Ahmed, is dead after travelling to Chicago to confront his estranged wife. After learning that Ahmad was depressed and travelling to Chicago to see his wife, the Alpharetta police contacted the Chicago PD to request a welfare check at the residence where his wife was residing. When police arrived on the scene, Ahmed shot his wife then turned the gun on himself. (wsbtv.com)
- Fulton County Schools has established a process to handle complaints about how race and racism are discussed in classrooms. In a 6-1 vote at the school board meeting on Tuesday,
On Tuesday July 19, the school board voted 6-1 to update its policies to be more aligned with House Bill 1084. The law went into effect July 1 and limits how teachers talk about devisive concepts. (paywall:The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

- Roswell Police Department: Come meet with recruiters from the Roswell PD today at the Reliant Hiring Solutions Law Enforcement Hiring Expo. If your interested, come out to learn about the pay and benefits package. (Roswell Police Department via Facebook)
- Educators and a guest are invited to the Chattahoochee Nature Center to learn about its programs, explore the 127 acres of forests, wetlands and river lands, the Butterfly Encounter and learn how the nature center can enhance school curriculum.
