Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:
- Residents and staff at Magnolia Place, a senior living center, in Roswell threw a birthday party for a 9-year old boy who has autism. The community at Magnolia Place heard of the story of Austin Sosebee, who hasn't had anyone show up to his birthday parties and experienced bullying at school for the past several years. His family reached out to the public this year to ask for people to send Austin birthday cards. Magnolia Place made Austin feel extraordinary and special. A sales market specialist from the community went to his home with a big yard sign, a birthday cake and over 65 birthday cards from the residents. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- The OneColonial team with Colonial Pipeline held an event to raise money for the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell. Members from OneColonial also got to meet one of the center's educational ambassadors — a red-shouldered hawk. The proceeds will go to the funding of educational programs. The Chattahoochee Nature Center will also use some of the proceeds for wildlife rehabilitation projects. (twitter.com)
- The Roswell Housing Authority received assurance from Roswell City Councilwoman Lee Hills regarding the city's commitment to help the remaining residents of the Grove Way Apartments. She solidified the city’s vow to help the elderly residents find new homes. Currently, there are 18 tenants remaining in the apartment building and eight tenants have yet to find a new place to live. Councilwoman Hills met with U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath at last week's Housing Authority meeting. McBath aided in securing $12 million for the redevelopment of the 199 Grove Way Apartments. This would be in addition to the $2 million the city of Roswell is said to be putting toward the redevelopment. Hill will continue to fight for these residents and members of the community. She is trying to meet with Gov. Brian Kemp on the matter. (appenmedia.com)
