Debra Svitil Wins 'People Choice' in Moving Parts of the Arts

The Roswell Cultural Arts Board recently announced the ‘People’s Choice’ award for the Roswell “Moving Parts of the Arts” bicycle art display as Debra Svitil.

Eight dynamic artists created inspiring and unique pieces comprised of donated bicycles and bicycle parts from Roswell Bicycles in celebration of the Roswell Criterium.  Artists transformed the bikes into creative ‘masterpieces’ for residents and visitors alike to enjoy throughout the streets of Roswell during the month of April.

The general public voted via the City of Roswell’s Historic & Cultural Affairs Facebook page and through an on-site QR code that linked to a special survey.  “Although all the pieces were impressive, the people have chosen their favorite” says Kim Hutchens, Chair of the Moving Parts for the Arts Committee and member of the Roswell Cultural Arts Board.

And the 2012 People’s Choice winner is:

‘Friends to the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue – I Am That Someone’, created by Debra Svitil.  “I created this piece to raise awareness. My hope is that others will view this ‘Angel Dog’ and take a moment to find out more; more about these amazingly resilient pets and more about the man who has dedicated so much of his being to not only saving these dogs, but saving the humans who keep them as well” said Svitil.  She added, people need to be educated that through spay and neuter programs, we can drastically reduce the numbers of unwanted animals. The Humane Society estimates that upwards of 4 million animals are euthanized in the United States every year.  For more information on the organization, visit www.friendstotheforlorn.com.
