Atlanta Baroque Orchestra Comes to Roswell
Roswell Presbyterian is the venue for the season premiere on Sept. 7.
In conjunction with the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra will open its 15th season Sept. 7-8 with “Irregular Pearls: Music from the Time of Vermeer” under the direction of Artistic Director Julie Andrijeski.
The opening concert will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Roswell Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 755 Mimosa Boulevard.
The performance in Roswell will feature a concert of music by 17th-century masters from the time of Vermeer that will add a musical dimension to the High Museum of Art’s blockbuster exhibition “Girl with a Pearl Earring: Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis.”
Music at both the Roswell concert and High Museum of Art events will feature works by such 17th-century European masters as Samuel Scheidt, Jacob Van Eyck, Heinrich Scheidemann and William Brade, many of which have been specially arranged by Andrijeski for the ensemble.
“We are very pleased to be able to add a rich period musical dimension to the spectacular showcase of paintings from The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis in The Hague, one of the art world’s eminent treasures,” said Andrijeski. “This is our first collaboration with the High Museum of Art, and we are excited to introduce Atlanta-area audiences to the music of contemporaries of Vermeer and Rembrandt.”
