Centennial High School Students Receive Girl Scout Gold Award
Abigail Harden, Kara Gibson and Michelle Manganiello received the Girl Scout Gold Award for participating in the Take Action Project.
From Centennial HS: It seems more commonplace to hear about new Eagle Scout recipients these days, despite how difficult it is to earn that prestigious honor. Have your heard of the Girl Scout Gold Award? According to Wikipedia, just 5 percent of girl scouts will earn this award. It is no surprise then that Centennial High School is proud to announce that three of its students have earned the highest achievement in Girl Scouting this year! Abigail Harden, Kara Gibson and Michelle Manganiello dedicated countless hours of hard work to earning this top honor.
The Gold Award is open only to high school students and requires recipients to create a sustainable and measurable Take Action Project. On average, these projects take one to two years to complete. The goal of these projects is to provide meaningful, long-term solutions for local and global communities. Each awardee was asked to design, plan, implement, and evaluate their project based on an issue that spoke to them.
For her Gold Award project, Michelle Manganiello donated 300 books to Esther Jackson Elementary School and created a ‘reading nook’ consisting of a bookshelf, a bench and a ‘Michelle’s Book Nook’ sign. She also created a reading program for high school students to read the donated books to elementary school students during after school care.

Achieving this award is certainly a precursor to future success, through the leadership, commitment and communication required to succeed. Successful Gold Award alumnae include 70% of current female U.S. Senators; 55% of women currently serving in the U.S. House of Representatives; and all five current female state governors.
“We are so proud of these young women who are making the world a better place,” said Principal Kibbey Crumbley. “I am honored that they will be Centennial Knights graduates!”
