Company Wins Zero Energy Award For 'High Performance' Roswell Home
U.S. Department of Energy awarded a grand prize for a new Roswell high-performance home built by the Imery Group.
ROSWELL, GA – Atlanta homebuilder Imery Group received a Grand Winner award at the annual ceremony of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home program earlier this week. Imery Group beat out 13 other finalists from around the country to win the top award for Innovation in Custom Homes for a high-performance home the company built near downtown Roswell, Georgia.
As defined by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) program, a Zero Energy Ready Home offers “a whole new level of home performance, with rigorous requirements that ensure outstanding levels of energy savings, comfort, health, and durability.”

DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes are at least 40-50 percent more energy efficient than a typical new home. Certified homes are third-party verified to meet high standards for indoor air quality, efficient HVAC design, water conservation, ENERGY STAR appliances and fixtures, as well as numerous other building-science best practices.
The Roswell home is a three-bedroom, 2,200-square-feet bungalow with three bedrooms and an estimated annual energy bill of only $202 dollars. That’s a savings of $1,896 compared to an average home under today’s building codes. Roughly two-thirds of the energy savings are achieved through energy-efficient systems and building techniques. The final third is due to a 6.3 kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) solar system on the home’s roof.

“The energy savings for a home like this are tremendous, but that’s really just one part of the high-performance value,” Imery Group CEO Luis Imery said. “Building a Zero Energy Ready Home also means saving on water, raising air quality throughout the home and ensuring durability. We’re proud to have our commitment to this program recognized.”
In 2014, Imery Group was a Housing Innovation Award finalist for a zero energy home in the Serenbe community south of Atlanta that’s featured in a case study on the DOE website.
