It announced from its Roswell office, a new division of the company that will be called Sebela Women's Health. The company appointed Dr. Kelly Culwell as head of research and development for this new division. - Specialist 4th Class Rick Leake was named as an “Esteemed Veteran of Roswell” at a special out-in-the-community Mayor and City Council Meeting on November 14 at East Roswell Park. Soon after graduating college, Leake was drafted into the US Army in 1970. After completing basic training, he was sent to serve in the Vietnam War. After a year-long tour in Vietnam, Leake was assigned as a records clerk at Sandia Base Army Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was honorably discharged from the Army on December 23, 1971, and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and M-16 Sharpshooter Medal. He moved to Roswell in 1986 and continues to call Roswell his home. In his retirement, he volunteers his time on the Roswell Historical Society Cemetery Committee and he serves as a board member of the Vietnam Veterans Business Association. His father-in-law, Harry Douglas Allen, Jr., attended this ceremony and stood by his side when the proclamation was read. Rick Leake's father-in-law is a World War II Veteran who was recently inducted into Roswell’s Esteemed Veterans on October 24, 2022. (facebook.com)
- During the November 14 Mayor and City Council meeting, the council unanimously voted to approve a new distribution formula for dividing revenue from the countywide Local Option Sales Tax (LOST). Over the next 10-year period, those funds are expected to generate approximately $4 billion in revenue. Over the past several months, Roswell, along with other cities in Fulton County, vied with the county over changing the redistribution of LOST funds to allow a larger portion to go to the county. After months of hectic negotiation, Fulton County agreed to a formula that will incrementally increase its share of the sales tax revenue to 12% over the next 10 years. Therefore, the share that the City of Roswell obtains will decrease from 8.9% to 7.6% over the next 10 years. Mayor Kurt Wilson said the negotiated allocation is a “very sound agreement” that was reached ahead of the anticipated schedule. (appenmedia.com)
