Here are the top six stories today in Roswell:
- The Parker-Chase preschool in Roswell will be allowed to reopen after the state revoked its operating license last year. The school was shut down after two teachers were charged with child cruelty and arrested. After an investigation from police and and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), multiple incidents of abuse involving these two teachers were discovered. The State of Georgia has since then reached a settlement with the child care facility and will reinstate its license. (wsbtv.com)
- The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, which services Roswell and other N. Fulton cities, has appointed two new senior leaders. The chamber welcomes Rebekah Anderson and Carisa Turner to the team. Rebekah Anderson will now serve as the VP of Membership Growth and Events. Carisa Turner will be the organizations new senior director of External Affairs and Economic Development. The group says that the new members of their leadership team are in step with the three-year strategic growth plan. (appenmedia.com)
- The City Council has unanimously approved a sidewalk café license for Pop Alleigh in the Canton Street district. This approval will allow a limited number of seats for a champagne and wine tasting bar outside of the establishment. Pop Alleigh will be able to place two tables and four chairs on the front sidewalk. A five-foot pathway of open space must be left open for pedestrians. The champagne bar and wine tasting lounge has another sidewalk café license application pending with the city for the rear side of the tasting bar. (newsbreak.com)
- On February 9, a man reported to Roswell Police that a passenger from a car "waved" a gun in his direction as the car drove past him. He was outside of a Chevron gas station on Holcomb Bridge Road. The man told responding officers that the individual yelled “Who are you with?” at him, then the gun was pointed in his direction. The car was described as a black 2012 Nissan Pathfinder that has a white sticker on the rear passenger side. Police reviewed the gas station's surveillance video where they did see the car and the person with the gun that was in question. Security footage from a nearby McDonald’s parking lot was also reviewed. (appenmedia.com)
- The Hembree Farmhouse that was purchased by Jared and Brandy Kirschner last year, has been approved for rezoning by the city. The property was approved to be rezoned from a civic and institutional estate to a single-family-estate. This approval will allow the new owners to make improvements to the home's plumbing, a kitchen and bathroom. (newsbreak.com)
- Over $5,000 in electronic devices was reported to be swiped directly from a delivery driver. A Roswell woman reported to police that a FedEx employee came to her home to make the delivery, but a man who posed as her husband received the packages from the FedEx driver. After being alerted that her delivery was made, but she didn't receive it, she contacted the courier service. She was told that the package was indeed delivered to her home, and a man approached the driver, introduced himself as the husband, and took the order. Four iPhone 14s were taken. Roswell police could not access any camera footage from the area. (appenmedia.com)
