Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:
- The Roswell City Council voted on the $1.5 million purchase of a historic home built circa 1845. The home was owned by a cotton grower from Savannah, Robert Adams Lewis. His wife, Catharine Barrington Cooke, was a niece of Roswell King. The mayor said that this purchase will warrant a "renewed focus on Roswell’s historic assets." The city's goal is to make Roswell a destination for historical tourism and to generate revenue for the city. This 4,000 square-foot home comes with 1.76 acres of land. The previous owners, Lewis and Nancy Gray, purchased the property in 1984, and a complete restoration was done during that time. City officials said the proposed purchase price was below the appraisal and market value of the house. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Another former Roswell athlete is making waves in the college football world. Tyneil Hopper was once a member of the Roswell Hornet football team and a three-star player. Hopper is currently transferring from Boise State to Michigan State to be added as the third tight end on the team. Hopper announced the transfer, and pledged his commitment to Michigan State on his social media page on Thursday, December 15. Hopper comes to Michigan State with an impressive record, he finished last year's season with 13 catches for 108 yards. (247sports.com)
- The City of Roswell Recycling Center is reminding residents of what items can be recycled in a curbside container and which items cannot be placed in the bins. The center will continue taking common paper items such as newspapers, junk mail, broken-down boxes, paper grocery bags and magazines. They will also allow glass food and beverage containers, various plastic containers and cartons, as well as aluminum, steel, bi-metal cans. Plastic bags, light bulbs, ceramics, paint and certain metal items are just some of the items that it will not collect from curbside bins. There is a complete list of prohibited items on the center's website. (roswellgov.com)
