Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. Roswell police recently discovered a fake license plate on a car that was associated with felonies. The counterfeit plate was uncovered on a black Audi in a parking lot on Holcomb Bridge Road on December 3. The Georgia plate that was on the black car was initially registered to a white Audi A5, whose owner was under arrest in Florida on multiple felony warrants. The owner of the black Audi told police he found the license plate in a trash can and used because he had issues registering his vehicle in Georgia. Police confiscated the license plate and gave the man a citation for using the faux license plate to conceal the identity of his unregistered vehicle. (appenmedia.com)
  2. The fire department will be bringing the first Citizen's Fire Academy to Roswell. This will be a 30-hour program that delves into the fire service industry, its purpose, and importance to communities. These hands-on classes will be taught by members of the Roswell Fire Department. This new program will commence on February 7, and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. An age requirement of 18 years or older and a criminal background check are required. Participants must also live or work in the City of Roswell. Registration for the first ever Citizen's Fire Academy in Roswell is now open. (facebook.com)
  3. A report of elder abuse and care neglect was made at North Fulton Hospital after an 80-year-old nursing home resident passed away. Officers with the Roswell Police Department were dispatched to the hospital to investigate the report. Two EMTs told police that they responded to a call that a resident was unresponsive at the Roswell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The resident was unresponsive, however, he was breathing and had a pulse. They also told police that signs of hypoxia, which indicated that medical attention was not given for an extended period of time. Doctors stated that the resident died of natural causes. One of the emergency medical technicians told officers that it was his feeling that neglect "played a significant role in the man’s death." He intends to file a report with the state and with Adult Protective Services. (appenmedica.com)
