Emily Carpenter is poised to become the next Atlanta-area author to have a novel adapted for television, in true “Will Trent” fashion.

“Gothictown,” the Roswell resident’s 10th title, was simultaneously optioned for both print and production two years before the book’s March release.

“It was a whirlwind for sure and not what I had ever experienced,” Carpenter said prior to the book’s debut, which was celebrated with a launch party alongside Bookmiser at Roswell’s Deep Roots Wine Market & Tasting Room. What’s more, she’ll be co-producing the series, a task for which she was well prepared by one of her earliest jobs.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communications and minors in journalism and theater, Carpenter moved to New York City in the early ’90s, where she worked as an actor, producer, screenwriter and behind-the-scenes soap opera assistant for the CBS shows “As the World Turns” and “Guiding Light.”

Returning to Georgia, where she and her husband raised their three sons, Carpenter began writing “Burying the Honeysuckle Girls,” which landed her first agent and resulted in a two-book deal.

Now, six acclaimed suspense novels and four romances later, the bestselling author is eagerly anticipating a “Gothictown” script, cast and locations to be announced.

“Apparently, TV moves even slower than publishing does,” she joked.

Carpenter will be sharing more about the book and upcoming show Saturday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. at the Roswell Library, 115 Norcross St. Bookmiser will have Carpenter's novels available to purchase. The presentation, hosted by Atlanta Authors, is free and open to the public with registration here.
