Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. There is a proposed driveway repair project at Roswell First Baptist that environmentalist have expressed concerns with. The endeavor will repair and stabilize an eroded streambank that is downstream from the culvert repair under the driveway. Plans are to stabilize the streambank slopes with grading and revegetation in the buffer. Final stabilization will be achieved with permanent vegetation. This will result in 63 feet of buffer disturbance. Environmentalist have until December 6 to address these concerns with the Environmental Protection Division Watershed Protection Branch. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Fall weather has set in and the winter's cold is on its way. The City of Roswell shared a public service announcement with residents to emphasize the importance of winterizing your water lines. The cold temperatures can cause pipes to freeze and break, which can create severe water damage. There are detailed preventative measures the city advises homeowners to take to prevent your pipes from freezing. If your pipes do break, you are advised to shut off the main water valve, then contact the City of Roswell Water Utility or Fulton County Water. The city says that leaks can also be reported on the City of Roswell mobile app. The city's Aquahawk monitoring system notifies Roswell water users if there is a leak in your home. (roswellgov.com)
  3. A fire destroyed a residential home in Roswell last week. Luckily the family of four was not home when the fire started. They were alerted by their security cameras of the smoke that was engulfing bedrooms in the home. The home is still standing, but the inside has been ravaged by the fire. Fire crews responded quickly and extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported. The family has been given a lot of support from their friends and neighbors. A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family. The cause of the fire was not reported. (fox5atlanta.com)
  4. A Public Comment Period for the Community Development Block Grant-Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) Substantial Amendment has been opened by the City of Roswell. This will be a 30-day public comment period for an amendment to the 2019 Annual Action Plan (AAP). Roswell received $115,471.52 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) via the CARES Act. This amendment will establish the reallocation of these funds. Four different projects are being considered for this redistribution: North Fulton Child Development Association Scholarships, a case manager for the Roswell Housing Authority, Roswell Recreation and Parks Senior Programming and Roswell Recreation and Parks Waller Park Summer Camp. A list of locations are provided in which hard copies of the plan will be available for pickup. (appenmedia.com)
