Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:

  1. The Roswell FD has given an update on the application process for the promotion of 21 captains. Applications came from internal and external candidates and the Fire Department currently has almost 150 applicants for these positions. The candidates have already completed their initial round of interviews, as well as the assessment center process at the Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center. They will continue into the final phase of the interviews and assessment center process. Their goal is to onboard the captains by the end of October. (facebook.com)
  2. Fulton County Schools has decided to create new attendance zones and redistrict some schools in North Fulton. This process will affect the entire North Fulton region. Enrollment has declined in recent years and created an imbalance. Some schools are still crowded and others have open space for more students. Specifically for Roswell, the relocation of Crabapple Middle School, causes the need to make changes to the attendance zone in the area. Fulton County School officials will get the community's feedback while they create the new zoning over the next couple of month. The Fulton County Board of Education will vote on the proposals in December. There will be upcoming meeting October 4 and October 18. (appenmedia.com)
  3. Roswell Special Events has announced an upcoming road closure in the city. Azalea Drive to Willeo Road will be closed on September 17 for the 8th Annual Run at the River. The road race, Team Maggie's Dream, will be taking place in the area between 7 - 10 a.m. The city will keep the southbound lane of Willeo Road open for traffic. (instagram.com)
  4. Fulton Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney gave more updates on the districts upgraded safety plan. It began looking into and adding to the county's safety plan after the deadly school shooting in Uvalde, Texas this past May. Fulton County Schools recently formed a safety committee. It has recommended the installation of Flock Safety Cameras on school campuses to read license plates. The cameras are said to scan license plates and vehicle characteristics only and will not scan people and faces. The system will have the capability to correspond with national and local criminal databases and alert law enforcement if required. The installation of the cameras will cost $626,300 and is to be funded through ESPLOST. The final vote is scheduled at the September 22 board meeting. (11Alive.com)
