Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. On September 7, Captain Bryan Dobson ended his 28-year career with the Roswell Fire Department. Dobson began working with the Department as a volunteer in 1994 and eventually transitioned to a part-time position. Captain Bryan Dobson has deep roots with the Roswell FD. His father began working as a volunteer with the Department in 1973 and his great-uncle, Robert Mosteller, was an assistant fire chief in the 1950s. Dobson also served as captain in the Support Services Division with DeKalb County Fire Services. He also retired from that position after serving 30 years with DeKalb County. The city thanks Captain Dobson for his dedication and service to the city of Roswell. (facebook.com)
  2. Roswell Youth and National Arts and Humanities Month is in October and the city is still accepting applications for the 72nd Annual Frances McGahee Youth Day Celebration. However, applications for float entries will close on Sunday, September 11. Applications for community partnerships and sponsorship opportunities can still be submitted as well. The parade and celebration will take place on October 8. There will be fall festivities following the parade. There will be a petting zoo, pumpkin patch, live entertainment, arts and crafts, food trucks, and more. (instagram.com)
  3. Purple Pansies nonprofit, based in Alpharetta, is helping Americans fight pancreatic cancer. The organization has raised more than $4 million for pancreatic cancer resources. The founder, Maria Fundora, started the non-profit after her mother's death from the disease. She first started by holding a fundraiser in her Alpharetta restaurant, Casa Nuova. Purple Pansies hosts a fundraiser gala every year. The annual Purple Pansies Gala will be on September 18. The group also has a scholarship application that is open for students whose parents or guardians are battling pancreatic cancer. Applications can be entered through September 15. (fox5atlanta.com)
