Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:
- Karin Sweinhart is a Budget Analyst who recently met with the Roswell Fire Department for a budget meeting. They discussed how the department can simplify processes and increase efficiency. They also collaborated with Sweinhart on how the fire department can improve its partnership with the Finance Department. (facebook.com)
- There were intersection improvements at Old Roswell Road and Warsaw Road that were approved in 2016. The project was held due to lack of funding. Those plans have been revisited and a rebid on the project was opened. City council has approved a $923,627 contract with BackBone Infrastructure for the improvements. This is looking to improve traffic flow by adding new turning lanes and signal modifications and upgrade the sidewalk on the eastern side of Warsaw Road In order to meet storm water requirements, the current swales in front of Mimosa Elementary School will be upgraded. Fulton County will reimburse the city of Roswell for its portion of the costs. (Paywall: ajc.com)
- The Roswell Rotary Club, along with the city of Roswell, will be holding the its third annual 9/11 First Responders Drive Through Cookout. This is in remembrance of the First Responders who sacrificed and risked their lives on 9/11/2001. They will recognize our local First Responders by providing them meals to drive-thru and pickup during their shifts. Roswell Fire Station No. 4, located off of Old Alabama Road, will be hosting the event Saturday September 3. (facebook.com)
- After the recent changes to Georgia's abortion law, the Georgia Department of Public Safety updated its policies regarding HOV lanes. The state recognizes embryos and fetuses as persons with full rights, therefore HOV lanes are now open for people who are pregnant. Previous policy stated that “vehicles with two or more (living and not pre-infant) persons” were allowed to ride in HOV lanes. The revision removed “living and not pre-infant” from HOV lane requirements. (WABE 90.1 FM)
