Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:

  1. Former Alpharetta Municipal Judge Barry Zimmerman has been referred to state authorities following accusations of “improper involvement” in local cases. Zimmerman previously served on the municipal courts of the cities of Roswell and Milton. He became the chief judge of the Alpharetta Municipal Court in 2014. There will be further investigation into six cases in which Zimmerman allegedly represented criminal defendants while using another attorney’s name and signature as a “straw man” defense attorney to file pleas with another Alpharetta judge. Due to these allegations, Zimmerman resigned from his position in June. The investigation has been referred to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Bar Association. 2. The city of Roswell has been named as one of the U.S. cities most impacted during the "Great Resignation" employment trend. Atlanta and Sandy Springs were also included on the list. Atlanta, Sandy Springs and Roswell had an employment change of 6.1% between May 2021 - May 2022. The most common reasons for resignation given were compensation, lack of benefits, remote work vs. company culture, work-life balance and lack of childcare. An increase in entrepreneurship, freelancing and contractor-based industries were noted. The report was conducted by Workamajig and also concluded that there was a 33% increase in voluntarily resignation for the entire nation. (savannahceo.com)
  3. A new mountain bike trail has been unveiled in Roswell. The Roswell Alpharetta Mountain Bike Association (RAMBO), along with the Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs department is responsible for creating this new trail for the city. The group celebrated the opening of their new trail, the Hollywood Trail, with an official Ribbon Cutting. Roswell City Council members and RAMBO sponsors attended the ceremony and were able to witness the first bikes cross the new trail. Labor, materials, supplies and services were given by local businesses in the community to complete this project. (facebook.com)
  4. Fulton County Commissioner Bob Ellis recently spoke about the issues between Fulton County officials and the mayors of cities within the county regarding how the local option sales tax (LOST) revenues will be allocated. Ellis noted that most services, like libraries and public health, within the county are eligible for LOST funds, and is contrary to claims from Fulton mayors that the cities themselves cover services from their own budget. He believes that in the upcoming negotiations between the county and city, will produce a solution that is beneficial to residents within the county. He hopes the solution will allow cities to keep their millage rates the same. (WABE 90.1 FM)
