Fulton Shooting Kills Suspect, Injures SWAT Officer

Police were attempting to serve warrants at a Fulton County home on Friday when authorities said the suspect shot an officer in the chest.

ROSWELL, GA — A police shooting on Friday injured an officer and killed a suspect in the 500 block of Ansley Drive, Roswell Police said.

Detectives and SWAT team members were at the North Fulton home attempting to serve search and arrest warrants that were linked to a Dec. 31 investigation, police said.

On that day, police said a man was accused of shooting a handgun into the air after being asked to leave a party. Detectives charged the man on suspicion of reckless conduct, discharge of firearms on the property of another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, police said.

While authorities were trying to serve the warrants Friday, police said the suspect ran out of the back of the home and shot at officers, hitting a SWAT officer in the chest, police said.

Police said the officer's ballistic vest took most of the impact, but the officer was injured from shrapnel.

The officer shot back and hit the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The officer is expected to fully recover, police said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the probe into the shooting.
