Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. Construction that would widen a section of Atlanta Street in downtown Roswell has been delayed for three years. The costs to complete the project have also increased from $58 million to $63 million since 2020. A representative from the city of Roswell stated that the Gateway Project will now begin in spring of 2026.The Transportation Advisory Commission along with residents from the community put forth changes to the project that were discussed with city officials at the work session meeting on August 22.( Paywall: www.ajc.com)
  2. Registration for the 72nd Annual Frances McGahee Youth Day Celebration has opened. Youth Day was first celebrated in 1950. Youth Day is observed in October, which is also National Arts and Humanities Month. This year's theme is "Love Your Parks!" The city is accepting applications for float entries, community partnerships, and to sponsor the event. (facebook.com)
  3. The city of Roswell is still looking for volunteers for the Rivers Alive event. Not only can you volunteer as an individual, residents can unite and volunteer as a team. This is an excellent way to volunteer, meet neighbors in the community and team-build at the same time. Cleanup day is September 17 at Riverside Park. Signup for volunteers ends on September 12. 4. Fulton County Schools has updated its rules and Code of Conduct polices for the 2022-2023 school year. The Fulton County Board of Education announced at a meeting earlier this month that it will shift from accommodations and leniency that was set during the pandemic. The aim now will be centered on academic accountability and student conduct. The school system's new policy updates include new behaviors that are now considered unacceptable, as well as the consequences for violations. Fulton County Schools will continue to focus on school safety and security. (appenmedia.com)
