Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:
- Two committee meetings were held on November 16 by the Roswell City Council to discuss the almost $1 million of federal grant funding that is to be used for community initiatives relating to charities, policing and historical preservation. A proposal to redistribute more than $115,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds was made by the Administration Department. This grant is supposed to give aid to those affected by the recent pandemic. The organization Homestretch was the initial recipient of these funds, but it was not able to complete the development of an adult education program. Thus these funds are now open to alternate recipients. Talks about the reallocation of these funds will go into a 30-day public comment period before the council makes its decision on the reallocation. The North Fulton Child Development Association early education scholarships, R&P Waller Park summer camp, R&P virtual programming for seniors and the Roswell Housing Authority are all possible contenders to receive these funds. - A Mattie’s Call alert was officially issued this week for the 64-year old man who went missing in Roswell on Friday, November 11. He was last seen after officers from the Roswell Police Department conducted two different welfare checks on him near Riverside Road and Old Alabama Road that evening. Roswell detectives also received reports of a later sighting of the individual on Sunday afternoon near Shallowford Road and Sandy Plains Road in nearby Cobb County. The police department is continuing to seek the public's help with this investigation. Anyone with any information on what happened or his whereabouts are asked to call Detective Sroka at the Roswell PD. (wsbtv.com)
- The Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic, and Cultural Affairs department will be hosting a special movie night on Wednesday, November 30 at the Adult Recreation Center. The Adaptive Recreation Movie Night will feature a showing of “Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.” The lighting will be adjusted to a low-lighting setting and the volume will also be reduced. There will be plenty of open space if you would like to or need to move around. This unique community event is open to all ages. Registration is required to reserve a spot. (facebook.com)
