Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. The adoption of the 2022 Fulton County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan was approved by the Roswell City Council. The plan names all natural and man-made hazards that could impact each jurisdiction in Fulton County. Hazards such as flood zones, potential dam failure, earthquake and tornado risks and other hazards are assessed. The probability, frequency, and severity of the hazards are noted as well. Infrastructure that may be problematic in the past or potentially in the future emergency events and solutions to each infrastructure item are also included in the plan. The city's adaptation of the Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan ensures Roswell's eligibility to apply for funds under FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance Program. The Hazard Mitigation, Pre-Disaster Mitigation, Flood Mitigation Assistance and Severe Repetitive Loss grant programs are apart of this multi-jurisdictional agenda. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. The Fire Department responded to a house fire on Powell Drive in Roswell on the afternoon of October 13. There were no injuries or fatalities reported. However, the interior of the residence received notable damage. The Roswell Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office is currently researching the cause and origin of the fire. The Roswell FD is reminding residents to make sure their smoke alarms are less than 10 years old and to test them monthly. (appenmedia.com)
  3. The second of 10 public information meetings that discusses the three bond referendums was held at Hembree Park. Mayor Kurt Wilson noted that since 1988, the city has issued and paid off $96.8 million in general obligation bonds. The three bonds that will be on the November 8 ballot will total $179.6 million and will be used for improvements to parks, public safety, and a downtown parking lot. The Mayor stressed that the decision will be up to voters, and the City of Roswell will respect the outcome of the votes. (appenmedia.com)
