Here are the top stories today in Roswell:

  1. The Downtown Development Authority has been asked by the Roswell City Council to come up with a plan for the rejuvenation of the intersection at Holcomb Bridge Road and Hwy. 9 along with areas within a half-mile radius. The Sizemore Group will be contracted to execute the plans. The Sizemore Group has an extensive resume and has designed such sites as the Smyrna Town Center and Centennial Olympic Park. A site analysis, interviews, case study research and a planning workshop will be included to result in a master plan and summary. The mayor noted that the city would like to see this area used for mixed-use development and community services. (thegeorgiasun.com)
  2. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, black bears have been seen and documented in Gainesville, Alpharetta, Gwinnett, Marietta and Roswell. Mason Spratt, of Roswell, recently shared a video with Channel 2 that showed a bear walking through his front yard. This is the time of year when the bears are getting prepared for winter and sightings are common. The Wildlife Resources Division noted in a release that the statewide population of black bears is estimated to be about 4,100. (newsbreak.com)
  3. Roswell Public Safety will be hold the Touch-A-̶T̶r̶u̶c̶k̶ (Wheel) event on Friday, September 30. The Roswell Police and Fire Departments will bring their vehicles and equipment to East Roswell Park for a communitywide event. There will also be games and a screening of "Space Jam: A New Legacy." This will be a wonderful and fun chance to meet members from Public Safety to check out some neat fire and police vehicles and to enjoy a free movie with family, friends and community.   • Roswell Inc: Roswell Inc.'s International Economic Development Council Annual Conference will be September 18-21. The Executive Director, Steve Stroud, will be the speaker at the Leading High-Performing Organizations round table discussion. (Roswell Inc via Facebook)
  • The City of Roswell: Gurtej Narang was appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission and Jeffrey Green was appointed to the Design Review Board. These appointments were approved unanimously by Mayor Kurt Wilson and The City Council. (The City of Roswell Government via Facebook)
  • Fulton County Board of Health: The county's Board of Health will begin administering the bivalent COVID-19 vaccines for use as booster doses. This vaccine is open to the public. This booster offers protection against both the original strain of SARS-CoV-2 and the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 strain. Fulton County Board of Health locations and mobile locations will offer this booster. The North Fulton office in Alpharetta will begin offering the booster shot on September 12. (fultoncountyga.gov)
