Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. A lawsuit has been filed against the city of Roswell by retired Battalion Chief Edwin Vickery. He is suing the city for unpaid overtime and breach of contract by misclassifying him, along with other battalion chiefs, as overtime-exempt employees. Vickery's suit states that this practice violated the Fair Labor Standards Act as well as state laws. This suite comes two months after the Roswell City Council approved funding that will transition the public safety agency from part-time to full-time status. The city claimed no wrongdoing in response to the lawsuit and additionally asked for the case's dismissal. (appenmedia.com)
  2. Colonel Chuck Rhode was recognized as an "Esteemed Veteran of Roswell" by Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson and the City Council. Colonel served for over 20 years as an engineer with the Air Force and also worked with the Royal Air Force in England. Rhode received numerous awards, medals, and honors during his extensive military career. Rhode was honored not only for his service to our country, but also for his contributions to our community. 3. Police in John's Creek made a drug bust after serving a warrant to collect blood from an infant who resided in a John's Creek home. The warrant was issued after a welfare check was made at the home last month. The blood test found a mixture of different drugs in the infant's system, and a search warrant has then issued to search the residence. Police found fentanyl, meth and Xanax pills in the home. The child was removed from the parent's custody and they were charged with cruelty to children in the 2nd degree, possession of drug-related objects, and reckless conduct. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  4. This week is In service Week at the Roswell Police Department. A group of officers participate in this weeklong training that covers different topics and skills such as precision driving, high risk traffic stops, and pursuit driving. The department conducts this training monthly. The Roswell PD will keep residents updated throughout the week so we can see what their trainings look like. (facebook.com)
