Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. Homestretch is a local non-profit that offers transitional housing to working families that are experiencing and/or facing homelessness. The neighborhood that sits at the end of Millbrook Circle in Roswell provides housing support and programs to families in need. It has recently opened a new building on the property that will be a huge benefit to the children who live in the community. The Learning Lab is completely equipped to be a classroom and will offer tutoring. The local Rotary Club in Roswell along with two dozen local businesses funded the project. Talaya Parker, the executive director for the program, expressed that a learning center of this kind is unique for a transitional-housing neighborhood and is a "gamechanger." (wsbtv.com)
  2. There will be a Town Hall meeting to discuss the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) in September. Mayors from the North Fulton cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, John's Creek, Milton and Mountain Park will participate in a panel discussion on LOST and how it affects the communities of North Fulton. All commissioners from Fulton County were invited to participate as well. Steve Gehlbach from Channel 2 Action News will moderate the meeting. The panel discussion is scheduled for September 21 at City Hall in Roswell. (facebook.com)
  3. Frozen custard chains are on the rise in Georgia and a new chain will be opening in Roswell next year. Whit’s Frozen Custard founded in 2003 and was created by a husband-and-wife team in Granville, Ohio. The creators, Chuck and Lisa Whitman, sell their product on the promise that it's made “with the same pure ingredients as a century ago — cream, eggs and sugar — resulting in a treat that’s “thicker, smoother and creamier than ice cream.” There is currently only one Whit's Frozen Custard that's open in Newnan. The Roswell store’s franchisee, Libby Zappala, boasted that its frozen custard is the "finest and freshest." A specific date has not been announced for the grand opening. (newsbreak.com)
