Here are the top stories today in Roswell:
- Dave's Sports Cards store in Roswell was burglarized last week. More than $20,000 worth of trading cards were stolen. The thief bashed his way into the shop by using a sledgehammer. The store's owner, Dave Olivieri, believes the robber was in his store before, due to the fact that he bee-lined directly to the store's vault. High-end merchandise and single cards were stored in the vault. Olivieri says that there has been an uptake in trading card store break-ins in recent years as popularity for the hobby increases. There was also a theft at a trading card store in Cherokee County days before this heist. (fox5atlanta.com)
- On Saturday, 24 members of the Roswell Fire Department paid tribute to the memory of one of their own. Firefighter John Kevin Cash was commemorated for his life and legacy. Firefighter Cash was found deceased in his bunk room by fellow firefighters on the morning of January 21, 2020, after suffering a heart attack. He had just finished a 24-hour shift at Fire Station 27. The City of Roswell and the community continues to keep his wife, daughter and the Roswell FD family in their thoughts, hearts, and prayers. - After her recent retirement, Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann discussed her life and her 25-year political career with one of North Fulton's top media groups, Appen Media. Hausmann has held the District 1 seat on the Fulton County Commission for the past 12 years. Her district covered a majority of North Fulton County. She recently retired from political life after not obtaining the vote for the Georgia State Senate District 14 seat this past November. District 14 territory covers sections of Roswell, Sandy Springs and north Atlanta. In her reflections, she states that "she doesn’t know if the seat was ultimately winnable for a Republican." One of the most positive aspects of her career is that she was considered a bridge that connected county and city governments. When she first won the District 1 seat, Hausmann was the sole voice to represent North Fulton on the County Commission. The District 2 seat was thus added to give more representation for North Fulton. Hausmann cites North Fulton’s rapid development as a source of pride during her monumental political career.
