- Tuesday Mayor Kurt Wilson honored Lieutenant Signal Corps Ron Sherman as an "Esteemed Veteran of Roswell.” He is Vietnam veteran and was acknowledged for his heroic service to our country and to the Roswell community. Ron Sherman is also a nationally esteemed photographer. Next month Sherman will be featured in the Visual Artist Showcase at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. His note-worthy collection documents the American life since the 1960s. (roswellgov.com)
- The black bear that was first seen in Alpharetta a few days ago, and was reported to be moving south, was spotted roaming through The Avalon on Sunday. The bear was soon struck by a vehicle, but quickly fled into a nearby wooded area. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is tracking the bear but are still warning residents to be cautious. Residents and visitors to the area are advised not to try to help the bear if it's seen. (11alive.com)
- North Fulton cities are still in talks with Fulton County in regard to the division of shares of the countywide local option sales tax. In past years the tax was allocated based on each city’s population. The county kept a small portion for administrative fees. Cities in North Fulton, including Roswell depend on tax to help fund numerous expenses like park maintenance. The county now wants a bigger portion. Mayors from the 15 cities in North Fulton noted that this move will result in a loss worth millions in funding for city services. (appenmedia.com)
- Fulton County Schools are facing a major dilemma. It is facing a bus driver shortage as school is due to start in less than two weeks. The director of Transportation for Fulton County Schools, Vickie Cross, has expressed that “this has been the worst driver shortage I’ve ever experienced.” The district is in need of almost 300 drivers to transport students. The county is attracting potential hires by offering a 3% pay increase. Until enough drivers are hired to satisfy the need, parents are asked to be patient as delays in pick-up and drop-off times may be experienced during the beginning of the school year. (11alive.com)
