Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. In an unanimous vote at the September 12 City Council meeting, the second reading of the reduction of the tax rate was approved. The millage rate has been decreased to 4.463 mills for the 2023 fiscal year. Per the city, this new millage rate is one of the lowest in North Fulton. Although the property value in Roswell has increased 12%, there will be less strain on taxpayers with this new change. Roswell Finance Director Ryan Luckett stated that the tax digest in the city has increased by an average of 9% annually over the last five years. (appenmedia.com)
  2. The Roswell Arts Festival began in 1966 and since that time has supported more than $1 million for various projects throughout the city of Roswell. Roswell Recreation Association hosts this festival annually and its proceeds helped the organization to contribute funds to many of Roswell's beloved sites. Roswell Recreation Association raises money to aid the Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department. The Adult Recreation Center, the adaptive field at Groveway Community Park and the serenity garden at Roswell Area Park. These are some of the wonderful projects that were able to be developed due to the contributions made at the Roswell Arts Festival. The festival will be held this weekend in the Roswell Town Square. 3. The Fulton County Elections Board will held an meeting on Tuesday, September 13. The meeting was not initially scheduled, but was held only to discuss personal matters of the board. There was a closed-door executive session in which personnel was said to be discussed. The board expressed that this meeting was not to talk about election business, nor did they hear comments from the public. The elections board has not had a full-time elections director since the beginning of April since the previous director, Richard Barron, resigned. The board has not stated if this opening was specifically discussed in this meeting. (Paywall:ajc.com)
