Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:

  1. Bear sightings have continued in North Fulton. There have been sightings in Roswell, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Brookhaven. Many residents are wondering if perhaps there is more than one bear being sighted. Recent social media posts and video showed a bear walking through neighborhoods in Roswell and Sandy Springs. There were a few confirmed sightings in homeowner's yards in Martin's Landing this week. Officials said that the bear seems to be moving along GA-400. Melissa Cummings, a spokeswoman with the Department of Natural Resources, said “It is possible that these are sightings of the same bear, they can travel good distances, so the potential is certainly there.” She also gave advice if one was to encounter a bear: stay away and make as much noise as possible. 2. A zoning change has been approved by the Roswell City Council. The change will allow electric vehicles to be sold at an existing building at 950 Sun Valley Dr. The applicant plans to sell, service and repair electric cars. Conditions did come with the council's approval. One such condition states that the owner must load and unload cars on site, not on the street. This rezoning approval doesn't guarantee approval for the Land Disturbance Permit. Improvements to the site may be needed in order to comply with Roswell’s Unified Development Code. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. In the upcoming November election, residents of the city will vote on three different questions for Roswell's Bond Referendum. According to Mayor Wilson, those who reside in Roswell expressed the need for improvements to parks, more sidewalks and trails added, support for the police and fire departments and for a parking deck to be created downtown. Votes will decide if the city will provide funding to move forward with these projects and improvements. Voters will be asked regarding the following: Question No. 1: $107.6 million for recreation, parks, bicycle and pedestrian paths and sidewalks. Question No. 2: $52 million for public safety, (police and fire) capital projects. Question No. 3: $20 million for a public parking deck. There will be several upcoming meetings to discuss and educate the public on these referendums. (roswellgov.com)
