Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:
- A 31-year old woman was found stabbed to death in her Roswell apartment on Sunday. Police were able to identify a suspect after receiving information from a family member who arrived while police were investigating the apartment. Shortly after police began to locate the suspect, they were informed by Sandy Springs PD of a fatal pedestrian crash on I-285. The victim in the traffic accident is said to have walked in front of an oncoming semi-truck on the expressway. The victim of the accident is believed to be the same suspect in the Roswell crime. Roswell PD have no other suspects at this time. (www.11alive.com)
- Roswell's Rivers Alive waterway cleanup took place on September 17 and was a success. The statewide event was co-hosted by Keep Roswell Beautiful and the City of Roswell with 184 volunteers who collected 4,455 pounds of trash from various sites throughout the city. Reports showed 65% of the items collected was garbage. This included items such as tires, a washing machine, bottles and a dog house. Volunteers also removed plants that were non-native and invasive to the waterway systems. Several city council members as well as the Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell and the Gardenia Chapter of the National Charity League were among the volunteers. (www.roswellgov.com)
- Roswell Police were called to the Chattahoochee River near the Cobb County boarder after a body was found in the river. The Roswell Police and Fire Departments worked with the Cobb County Fire Department and National Park Service to recover the body from the water. The body was identified as an adult male. The National Park Service will lead the investigation with assistance from the Roswell PD. A cause of death is currently being examined by the The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office. - The Great Annual Duck Race is an annual event that Keep Roswell Beautiful puts on to raise money for environmental stewardship programs. On Saturday, October 15 tons of rubber ducks will be cast away down Big Creek in Roswell. The community can offer their support by sponsoring a duck, a pack of five ducks, or a float of 10 ducks. Cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. This is a family-friendly event with food, refreshments and activities for children. Proceeds from these sponsorships help support projects like Adopt-a-Road, Adopt-a-Stream and the annual Roswell Rivers Alive Cleanup. (Paywall: ajc.com)
- The city's Public Works/Environmental Department will have a Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, November 5. This collection is for Roswell residents only and is not for commercial entities. The collection will be at the Public Works/Transportation/Fire Facilities on Hembree Rd. It will not be at the Roswell Recycling Center. They will collect various types of hazardous waste, but will not accept latex or oil-based paint. Residents will be required to show proof of residency. The Roswell Recycling Center is offering information on the specific items that cam be collected and how to safely bring those items to the collection site. (roswell.gov.com)

- The Roswell Fire Department: The Roswell FD has hired 21 full-time fire captains to the department. This is the first time this position has been a full-time position at the department. They will provide supervision and oversight at the seven fire stations in the city of Roswell. (The Roswell Fire Department via Facebook)
- The Roswell Police Department: Cops on Donut Shops went down this weekend at two local Dunkin' shops. They raised $2,579 for the Special Olympics of Georgia. (The Roswell Police Department via Facebook)
- Aurora Cineplex Roswell: Aurora Cineplex will be at the Big Pumpkin 5K- a “fun-run-fundraiser”. The fundraider will benefit the The Cottage School in Roswell. The Aurora Cineplex tent will be at Riverside Park giving out free popcorn.(Aurora Cineplex via Twitter)
