- The North Fulton Master Gardeners is partnering with the UGA Extension in North Fulton to spread horticultural education throughout the North Fulton community. Beginning on March 5, the groups will offer free virtual gardening programs to residents. The classes will focus on gardening activities that are practical for different times of the year. There will be a total of five classes and pre-registration is required for either all five classes or you can opt to choose specific classes. (Press Release Desk)
- The Cottage School in Roswell was recently visited by an ex-NFL footballer, Rennie Curran. He met with teen students at the school on January 23 to have a discussion about “improving leadership capabilities, teamwork and performance.” Curran is a former linebacker for the NFL, and is currently a motivational speaker, author, and leadership coach. The school's officials say the Curran's values, who he is, and the school's mission are in alignment. The shared aim is to develop a "sense of self" for students who have special learning needs. - The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA®) and Roswell's police department have created a link in which the public can provide public feedback. They need feedback on the department's compliance with CALEA. There are almost 400 standards that the department has to comply with in order to maintain accreditation. These standards are available for the public's review at the Roswell Police Department on Hill Street. Detective Nicki Clutter is the local accreditation contact and can answer questions as well. The portal will be open for comments for 60 days. Comments on whether the Roswell Police Department is meeting these standards can also be written and mailed to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (roswellgov.com)
- On January 29 at 3:00 AM, a man was reported to be sleeping in his vehicle at a red light on Holcomb Bridge Road. The car was pulled off the road slightly on Terramont Drive and was stopped at an embankment. Upon arrival, the responding officers placed the car in park, turned off the engine and removed the driver's seatbelt. Officers stated that the man then awoke and “became combative.” The vehicle also had odors of marijuana and alcohol, and a handgun was found in the driver's door of the car. The gun was reported stolen, the driver had active arrest warrants from DeKalb and Hall counties and was a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, theft by receiving and driving with a suspended license. - Roswell Inc: Roswell Inc shared an update on a Roswell business' growth and its economic contribution to the city. The PGA Tour Superstore was founded and opened in 2005. Roswell is also the location of the company's corporate headquarters. Last year a 7,000-square-foot performance center was added to the superstore. Since 2019, the store's sales have had a 90% increase. (Roswell Inc via Twitter)
- The Roswell, Georgia Police Department: The Roswell PD is reminding residents of the rules regarding a motorists' responsibility to pedestrians and crosswalks. The three rules they shared will ensure that drivers are careful and exercise care when entering a crosswalk and/or intersection. - The City of Roswell, Georgia Government: In its continuance of the observation of Black History Month, the city imparted some of its black rich black history. As a way to develop an opportunity for organized sports for African Americans, the Josh Gibson Negro League was established in 1958. This league was comprised of eight teams from eight other cities in the state and they played at Woodstock Park, which is now called the Woodstock Soccer Complex. Roswell's team was named after American Negro League baseball catcher Josh Gibson. The team was named the Roswell Flames, who later changed their name to the Southern Flames. - Blessed Trinity Athletics: The Blessed Trinity Titan's athletic department is celebrating a huge accomplishment. The school's Athletic Director, Ricky Turner, has been gifted the GHSA Sportsmanship, Ethics, Integrity of Excellence Award. (Blessed Trinity Athletics via Twitter)
- Roswell NEXT: Roswell Next's Town Builders Breakfast with the Roswell Arts Fund was on Wednesday. The Roswell Arts Fund is noted for enhancing the city with "creativity and value." The group is responsible for the newly painted utility boxes that are around town, the artistically decorated bike racks, and the Beaucoup Jazz and Blues Festival. (Roswell N via Facebook)
- Visit Roswell, Georgia: This Sunday will be a day of Continental African, Diasporic and Contemporary/Black dance, music, song, and history. Djoli Kelen will be at the East Roswell Recreation Center, to translate an experience through dancing, drumming and storytelling. The event is free, but registration is required. - City of Roswell, Georgia Government: Monday, February 13 is the next Mayor and City Council Meeting.
