Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:

  1. The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce celebrated the grand opening of its new office located at the Avalon in Alpharetta. The North Fulton business community joined for the official ribbon-cutting on August 18. The new office overlooks GA-400, Avalon and Gwinnett Technical College. In a reflection of how the chamber has developed and grown over the last 50 years, GNFCC President and CEO Kali Boatright expressed how “to be located at Avalon and have this incredible view of the workforce development agency across the street, is really kind of coming full circle.” This new office is 2,000 square feet larger than their former office off Haynes Bridge Road. The Greater North Fulton Chamber serves the cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton, John's Creek, Sandy Springs and Mountain Park. (appenmedia.com)
  2. There will be a special called meeting on Monday, August 29 at City Hall. This meeting will be the first of two that will discuss the proposed property tax rate reduction. City Council and the mayor will decide if the millage rate should be decreased from 4.718 mills to 4.463 mills. If approved, this rate will be the lowest it's been in over 30 years.(facebook.com)
  3. The city of Roswell needs your input for a Community Needs Assessment. In order for the city to continue to administer the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, it must provide HUD with three important plans every five years. The CDBG Program allows for federal grants for community development activities that are awarded annually. Feedback from the community will help the city formulate these required plans that will be submitted to HUD. There will be a public information meeting for residents on Monday, September 19 and Tuesday, September 20. (nextdoor.com)
  4. The winner of the Dog Waste Pledge photo contest has been determined. There were 73 submissions to this year's contest. A 9-month-old Chihuahua named Tucci received the most votes from the public. Tucci and her owner, Gloria Libby, enjoyed a grand doggie-bag prize filled with toys, treats and oral care goodies that was given by The Downtown Pooch off Canton Street in Roswell. (facebook.com)
