Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. The deadline is approaching for the open-comment period to end regarding the allocation of the Community Development Block Grant-Coronavirus funding given by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The comment period, that is open to residents of Roswell, will end on December 28. Four different projects in which to spend the $115,472 funds are up for consideration. The community is to give their input on whether the city should allocate the money to scholarships for the North Fulton Child Development Association, a Case Manager for the Roswell Housing Authority, senior programs for the Roswell Recreation and Parks Department, or for the Waller Park Summer Camp. There will be hard copies of the city's plan available at City Hall, the East Roswell Library, the Roswell Housing Authority, and the Roswell Public Library. (Paywall: Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. A dog was rescued by a police officer from a trash compactor on Sarasota Drive in Roswell. The small dog was noticed by an officer when he stopped by the compactor on his way to work. The officer, along with a maintenance worker for the community, was able the free the canine. The dog appeared well, just shaken, and did have a collar with a number for the suspected owner. Once the officer tried to alert the apparent owner, the person who answered stated the dog was theirs and was left with their parents. The person then hung up and ceased responding to police. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for observation. (appenmedia.com)
  3. The City of Roswell and its culinary scene are receiving some national and international attention. Travel Lens, a site dedicated to helping people find things to do, wrote up an exciting article about the city and to spotlight 15 of the "best restaurants" in town. In addition to the history, attractions, parks, venues, landmarks and scenic nature found throughout Roswell, the article focuses on the variety of culinary experiences that can be found here. Some of the restaurants and eateries that made their list are: Little Alley Steak, Table & Main, Peach & The Porkchop, Vin 25 Bar,and Osteria Mattone Restaurant. There were many more places downtown and throughout Roswell that made the list. The site urged visitors and tourist to plan a trip to Roswell. (travellens.co)
  4. The city is applying for the Save America’s Treasures grant. This grant program has given more than 1,300 grants of over $300 million to projects across the United States. If the application is approved, the $750,000 grant will help complete required work for a Certificate of Occupancy at Mimosa Hall. The money will also help renovate the second floor of the historic site. The renovations and repairs to the hall will focus on preventative water proofing measures, such as updating the gutters, downspouts and the drainage system around the exterior of the property. A 25-year minimum preservation covenant/easement for the property is required by the terms of the program. The city will also be required to provide a one-to-one match of the funds if the grant is awarded to the City of Roswell. (Paywall: Atlanta Journal Constitution)
