Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:

  1. Roswell Police Chief James Conroy is proposing higher fines for false alarms that monitor homes and business. The mayor has also agreed that false alarms are an issue, however, he suggested that optional strategies need to be evaluated first. Since 2021, Roswell has been increasing fees for false alarms. On December 12, adjustments to this false alarm fee structure will be considered by the City Council. One said proposal would stop the $25 permit and renewal fees for alarms systems, false alarm late charges would increase, and the timeline would be extended for due dates. In the past year, the Roswell PD received 4,200 alarm calls, and a majority of those calls were false alarms. (Paywall: ajc.com)
  2. A Roswell High School quarterback passed away recently. Robbie Roper was a Senior at Roswell HS and the quarterback on the football team. The 18-year old was diagnosed with urea cycle disorder (UCD), which is a rare genetic condition that can be associated with potentially lethal elevations in ammonia in the blood. He passed away after complications from a routine surgery. Roper led the Hornets to a 10-3 record and they finished in the Top 10 at the Georgia Class 7A. He was also named the offensive player of the year by region 5-7A coaches. His parents confirmed his death last Wednesday on Twitter. (californiaexaminer.net)
  3. A preliminary report from the NTSB stated that the airplane that crashed in Alpharetta in October was flying "very fast." The report notes communication that occurred between air traffic controllers and the pilot of the twin-propeller Beechcraft Baron plane. The airplane descended below the assigned altitude while while flying over Alpharetta. Per the report, the plane continued to descend it's altitude until it was no longer on radar. The investigation into the crash and it's cause is still ongoing. The final report could take up to two years to be completed. (fox5atlanta.com)
