Here are the top five stories in Roswell today:

  1. The next meeting regarding the redistricting of attendance zones will be on October 3 at Alpharetta High School. Fulton County Schools will provide an idea of next year's potential school attendance zones. They will allow for public opinion on the draft proposals for enrollment boundaries. The board is currently using feedback from the September 12 meeting to develop the draft maps that will be presented to the community at the next meeting. The Fulton County School Board did express, however, that although they are encouraging involvement and feedback from the public, the ultimate decision will be based on established criteria set by the board. The new attendance zones will be effective the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year. (appenmedia.com)
  2. Matthew Donald, who was attacked last week at Roswell Area Park is now off the ventilator and is beginning to speak. His father gave the update to 11 Alive. He is continuing to recover, but probably will not be able to fully remember what happened on the night of the attack for some weeks. The victim is expected to remain in ICU for about another week. Roswell PD is still investigating the incident. They hope to get a motive once the victim is able to recount the attack. (11alive.com)
  3. The city of Roswell will be relocating water lines along sections of Old Alabama Road. The work is said to begin this week with prep-work and will continue until late spring of 2023. The work will be conducted during the daytime hours of 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. The city does not foresee the need to shut off water to the area during this construction process. However, one southbound lane will be closed for the duration of the work and there will be another lane closed during daytime hours. This project is apart of a larger scale of work that is led by the city of Atlanta and is in conjunction with the Department of Transportation's widening of GA-400. (roswellgove.com)
  4. The Roswell Police Department warned residents of yet another telephone scam that involves the department. The Roswell PD has received numerous calls from residents stating they are getting calls from the department asking for fines to be paid. The scammers are impersonating a real Roswell officer, Sgt. Marshall, and threating arrest if fines are not paid. Roswell Police also warn that the fraudulent calls are being made from a spoofed number that mimics the department's actual telephone number. Residents are advised to disconnect from the phone call immediately and do not give any information if you receive one of these calls. (twitter.com)
  5. A contract between the city of Roswell and AmRET was approved by the Roswell City Council. AmRET will offer retirement advisory services for the city’s defined contribution retirement plans. It is are to monitor the city’s retirement services provider to make sure that the correct fees and investment options are provided for employees. It will also offer assistance with creating and coordinating a plan governance committee. AmRET will also have advisors who will search and review investment managers. The cost for these services will vary contingent upon the balance of the city’s retirement accounts. (Paywall: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
