Who should you turn to in a rapidly changing real estate market?

If you needed a complex medical procedure, would you choose a doctor fresh out of med school — or one with years of experience who’d done the procedure successfully hundreds of times?

The answer of course is obvious: experience matters. The same is true for the largest financial transaction of your life: the buying and selling of a home — even more so in today’s complex and fast-changing real estate market.

Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. This year has been a progressive year for the City of Roswell. Appen Media shared a recap of this year's most important and memorable moments and events. This year was Mayor Kurt Wilson's first term in office after he beat Lori Henry in the November 2021 election. Peter Vanstrom, Will Morthland, Lee Hills and Sarah Beeson were added to the City Council. One of the most impactful votes the council made this year was the ban on new standalone apartments in the city. The council received criticism for this decision as some residents felt it "aggravated the housing shortage and disproportionately impact low-income residents." In May, the Grove Way Apartments were condemned after the building was found to be structurally unsound. This sparked a months-long battle to help relocate the community's tenants. Another major achievement for 2022 was the approval of $180 million for three bond referendums. These referendums will allow for upgrades to city parks, public safety and a downtown parking lot in Downtown Roswell. These bond referendums are expected to increase property taxes by about $342 annually. (appenmedia.com)
  2. The 2022 Peach Bowl is coming up on December 31 and is scheduled to be held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Downtown Atlanta. This will be the first year that Ohio State will attend the prestigious Peach Bowl. However, this will not be the first time the team's junior linebacker, Steele Chambers, has played football at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Chambers is not only a Georgia native, but he is one of Roswell's very own. The former Blessed Trinity Titan first played at the stadium during his freshman season in 2015 when Blessed Trinity played against Westminster. The now Ohio State footballer is looking forward to coming back to his home state and to once again play in the opulent stadium. “I live like 25 minutes away,” Chambers said. “It’s just been really nice being close to home, just having a lot of people from my family being able to come out to the game. " The city of Roswell will certainly cheer Chambers on has he competes in the 2022 Peach Bowl. (www.si.com)
  3. Roswell Firefighter Ed Chellino has retired from the department after 18 years of dedicated service. Chellino was known for being able to relate with the diverse community and for his story telling. It is said that his stories "could brighten anyone's day." The Fire Department gave Firefighter Chellino a very special farewell ceremony, and thanked him for his many years of service to the residents and City of Roswell. (facebook.com)

  • Roswell Historical Society: The Historical Society has shared some more of Roswell's deep history. The Roswell Manufacturing Company's mill building was built in 1854. Union troops burned the building in 1864 during the Civil War. The site was rebuilt, however, it was struck by lighting in 1926 and thus destroyed. (Roswell Historical Society via Facebook)
  • Roswell Inc: The Southern Post construction project on Alpharetta Highway is one of the most anticipated projects in the city. Development of the site is moving along and Roswell Inc. shared some photos detailing the progress. (Roswell Inc via Twitter)
  • Roswell Fire Department: Despite this past weekend's freezing temperatures, the fire department was still able to hold its holiday car seat safety check event. Child passenger safety technicians from Safe Kids North Fulton, Safe Kids Georgia, Safe Kids Cherokee County, Georgia DPH and Georgia GOHS were on site to make sure that parents were able to make sure their children were safe and sound in their car seats while traveling during this holiday season. • Keep Roswell Beautiful: Keep Roswell Beautiful is asking for the community's support to help the organization to continue to "cultivate environmental stewardship" in Roswell. It is asking for donations for supplies and resources for its yearly projects. You can donate various amounts to help supply the items needed. (Keep Roswell Beautiful via Facebook)
