Here are the top stories today in Roswell:
- The City of Roswell's 911 Center announced that they are currently hiring Communications Officers to join the 911 Emergency Communications Division. The 911 Emergency Communications Division is accredited by CALEA, APCO, and IAED for its quality of standards in policy, training, and customer service. The position provides specialized training, opportunities to receive certifications, and will be able to attend local and national industry-related conferences. The Communications Officer will answering service calls, dispatch calls to Roswell Police and Fire Units, coordinate medical response services, and assist the residents of the city with emergency and non-emergency situations. - The city's Día de Muertos Festival is fast approaching. This event, hosted by The Consulate General of Mexico and The city of Roswell, will be held on October 29. Día de Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday that honors family members who have passed away. There will be an “ofrenda,” which is a traditional altar, placed to honor diseased loved ones. A $15,600 Contract for Services award was recently given by the Fulton County Arts and Culture department. These funds allowed the city expand entertainment and education for the event. The funds will also help the city host other programs at the Cultural Arts Center during National Hispanic Heritage Month. Mexican cuisine, Aztec dancers, Oaxaca Group, a mariachi band, and traditional candy skull face painting will be highlights of the festival. (appenmedia.com)
- Scott Miller, MD, MBA is a local urologist with an office in Roswell and was recently featured in Atlanta Magazine. Dr. Miller is the medical director of Wellstar Urology and the director of Wellstar Robotic Surgical Services. He also has been named a "Top Doctor" by his peers for 13 years straight years. Dr. Miller is the founder of a 501(c)3 non-profit organization called ProstAware. This organization's goal is to create and elevate awareness about prostate cancer and to encourage men to take control of their health. (atlantamagazine.com)
- The Alpharetta-Roswell Herald and Appen Media recently interviewed the candidates for the open City Council Post 1 position. All four candidates were invited to share their platform and campaign. The interviews available to hear as full episodes of the media group's Inside the Box podcast series. Appen Media noted that the candidate's answers are modestly edited due to limitations on space.
