Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:

  1. A revised fee schedule for the Roswell Police Department was approved by the city council. The increased fees will be for alcohol permits, accident/incident reports, criminal background checks and fingerprint rolls. City records state that these increases reflect recent charges incurred by the records department when issuing permits and to also align more closely with those of neighboring municipalities. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. North Fulton Charites has launched its annual Back to School Program. Donations of backpacks, school supplies or pre-filled backpacks are needed to help low-income families in the community. You can donate items between July 25-27. Financial donations and volunteers are also needed to help with collection and distribution. (NFCC/help.org)
  3. The City of Roswell promotes the "Learn About Lead and Copper in Water" education initiative for the month of July. The City of Roswell Water Utility is conducting field investigations to determine if lead pipes are present on private and public service lines. Officials are encouraging residents to review records of their home to see if the plumbing has ever been updated and/or replaced since the home was built. The city offers best practices for residents to help decrease the chances of ingesting trace amounts of lead from drinking water. (roswellgov.com)
  4. On Saturday the Smith Plantation hosted the Open-Hearth Cooking and Living History class. As a living history interpreter and cook, Clarissa Clifton, teaches open-hearth cooking by using recipes from African traditions and known Black female cooks. Participants learned methods and techniques of cooking over an open fire and how to use traditional cast iron cookware. If you missed the class, don't worry. This class will be offered on select dates each month until December. (roswell.gov.com )
  5. On July 7 the Alpharetta Planning Commission delayed its decision on the redevelopment of the North Point Mall area. The decision is to be delayed until the meeting on August 4. More negotiations and planning between the city, developers and the property owners are needed before a decision can be made on whether to approve the redevelopment of the area. (appenmedia.com )
