Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:
- Natalia Astrain, who is the head coach of the U.S. Under-17 Women’s Youth National Team, has announced the roster for the 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. There will be 21 players who will represent the U.S. at the competition. Riley Jackson, a resident of Roswell, will be amongst the chosen 21 players. She is a midfielder on the team. Riley is also a member of the Concorde Fire Soccer Club in Atlanta. The tournament will be held October 11-30 in India. (www.soccerwire.com)
- The Roswell Day of Hope is a day set aside for the community to focus on mental health and safety when online. This will be a festival-like event presented by the local nonprofit Hope Roswell. Topics such as depression, anxiety, how how to recognize symptoms of mental illness will be discussed. There will also be information, education and help for parents and the community regarding human trafficking, gang activity, the dangers of social media and how chatrooms can be used as hunting grounds for predators. Hope Roswell will also provide free groceries, a shoe giveaway, medical and dental exams, haircuts and entertainment. Roswell Day of Hope will be held today at City Hall. (Paywall:ajc.com)
- Captain Michael Barrett of the Roswell Fire Department has retired after 25 years of service. He started with the department as a firefighter in 1997. He was Firefighter of the Year in 2001, and is a credentialed fire officer through the Center of Public Safety Excellence. The city of Roswell, along with the Fire Department honored Captain Barrett for his dedicated commitment to the community. (The Roswell Fire Department via Facebook)
- Centennial High School's four-star offensive tackle, Daniel Calhoun, is the No. 70 overall recruit in the draft 2024 cycle. He's not even a senior yet, but is being looked at by many colleges already. Calhoun has an On3 NIL Valuation of $73,000. The Roswell student spoke to the On3 Consensus about what his commitment plan and timeline looks like. “I’m probably going to commit at the beginning of my senior year,” Calhoun told On3. He will be attending the Tennessee vs. Florida game this weekend.(on3.com)

- Roswell Inc: Roswell Inc has released their FY22 Annual Report. The report details the strength and development of local businesses in Roswell. You can also get updates on current market trends. (Roswell Inc via Facebook)
- North Fulton News: The Fulton County School Board approved to install license plate cameras on school grounds. The board approved the $626,300 contract to install Flock cameras at all school campuses in the county. (North Fulton News via Twitter)
- The City of Roswell: Construction work has resumed on Oxbo Road in Roswell. The city shared a video showing the progress. Oxbo Road is expected to open back up to traffic no later than December 2023. (The City of Roswell Government vis Facebook)
