Here are the top stories today in Roswell:

  1. Two meetings have been held by the City Council to deliberate about the possibility of the city managing its own municipal elections. This measure has already passed through committee and the formal decision was to be made at last night's special council meeting. This "call for change" comes after Fulton County announced that their cost to manage municipal elections, is expected to triple this year. Roswell City Councilwoman Lee Hills says that "Fulton County has encouraged its municipalities to explore 'alternative election methods' to help save money." Roswell has two options that will allow them to oversee their own municipal elections: run these elections completely by themselves or partner with Milton, Johns Creek and Alpharetta through an intergovernmental agreement. 2. Safer Internet Day is coming up on Tuesday, February 7. This campaign is led by the Roswell Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. This year's theme will be sextortion, with a specialized emphasis on financial sextortion. The aim is not only to spread awareness and information, but to let children know there is always help available. The police department will be sharing more information about this initiative throughout the week. (facebook.com)
  3. A theft was reported at Plato’s Closet on Alpharetta Highway on January 19. An employee told the responding officers that overnight, multiple bins filled with clothing had been stolen from a shipping container that was in the back of the building. Upon investigation, officers found that surveillance footage showed a white minivan drive up to the container that previous night. A suspect can be seen taking the items from the container and loading them into the van. The Roswell Police Department is still investigating the theft. (appenmedia.com)
