Here are the top four stories in Roswell today:

  1. The Roswell Police have reported to the Alpharetta-Roswell Herald that on June 27, a Roswell resident received a call from a man who was impersonating a police officer. In a failed attempt, he tried to convince the woman that a warrant had been issued for her arrest for failure to appear in court. By impersonating a deputy, he gave her the option to pay a fine in order to avoid arrest. Further instructions prompted her to realize the scam and she reported the incident to the police. 2. If you've driven down Woodstock Road in West Roswell lately, you may have noticed that the Chick-fil-A there has been closed. Since July 7, residents have been wondering what's going on. Why did it close? Chick-fil-A has announced on social media that this location is currently renovating the drive-thru and dining room. It is expecting the location to reopen in September. 3. The rollout of a new 3-digit line that will connect individuals with suicide prevention and mental health crisis resources began on Jul 16. The new direct, national three-digit number, 988, will connect those in need via telephone, texts, and chats. The line will be open 24/7 and 365 days a year. ( facebook.com)
  4. On Friday July 15 all of the cities of Fulton County came together in opposition the Fulton County Board of Commissioners' request to increase the local option sales tax by 600%. Right now the tax is just under 5%. It is reported that the board is looking to raise that to 35%. The cities argued that the revenue increase would be $95 million a year, and would force them to raise property taxes on all Fulton County residents and businesses. The cities reported that they are working with the county to "to reach a reasonable distribution of the sales tax."(11alive.com)
