Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:
- Jessica Hernandez Park is an entrepreneur and the first Latina in Georgia to produce a reality TV show and to build med spa. Park Ave Cosmetic Center is located in Roswell and has been ranked as a top med spa in the North Metro area. Her reality show, Med Spa Life Atlanta, highlights the daily operations and transformation of the Park Ave Cosmetic Center in Roswell, and the realities of being an entrepreneur. Her med spa is one of the few women-run businesses in Roswell. (globenewswire.com)
- Community leaders are still seeking help with efforts to help move out the remaining tenants of the Grove Way Apartments in Roswell. The City of Roswell declared the apartment building structurally unsound in March. Since that time conditions at the community have only worsened. Residents reported that sometime between August 1-2, the ceiling of one of the units caved in. There have been many obstacles in regards to relocating residents. The lack of affordable housing and many landlords unwilling to accept Section 8 vouchers, are some of the challenges experienced. Twenty-four residents have already moved out and nine still remain. - Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson and the city council recognized Roswell’s Water Utility Manager, Chris Boyd. Boyd received the Elizabeth McEntire Award. This award acknowledges achievements in the operation of water supply, water treatment and water distribution. Community leaders gathered at City Hall to celebrate Boyd and the work he has done for the city of Roswell. (facebook.com)
- Feedback is still needed from residents of Alpharetta regarding the proposed plans to redevelop the North Point Parkway area. The current proposal includes reducing six-lane portions of N. Point Pkwy into four lanes. They will also install 12-foot multiuse paths on each side of the roadway and 6-foot planted buffers that will be installed to separate the pedestrian path from cars. This project will also upgrade and replace traffic signals. Although the topic was discussed at a July 26 meeting, the city is still accepting public feedback and comments via online. This can be done through the GA-DOT's website. (appenmedia.com)
