Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:

  1. The family of a Roswell woman who was struck by a vehicle and killed in July while out on a morning jog is continuing raising money through their GoFund Me page. The community has shown overwhelming support by donating almost $27,000 to the bereaved family. The money will help support her two sons. The motorist that caused the accident is a local fireman and has been put on leave from the Fire Department pending the outcome of the investigation. He has also been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield in a crosswalk. (www.wsbtv.com)
  2. Roswell Police are still investigating and looking for suspects in the violent attack of a man walking the trail at Roswell Area Park. The victim is still recovering in the hospital after receiving severe brain damage and could have months-long recovery. The victim's family is asking for answers in what seems like an unmotivated and completely random attack. The family has started a GoFund Me page to raise money for medical expenses and to add security to the Roswell Area Park. (cbs46.com)
  3. The City of Roswell recently accepted a $15,600 award from the 2022 Fulton County Arts and Culture program. These funds will support Roswell’s Dia de Muertos event on Saturday, October 29. The city initially asked for a $20,000 award, but received $15,600 instead. The award from the county requires a 50% match from the city. The city has a total of $31,200 to use for the celebration. 4. A Roswell man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 2021 police chase that ended in fatalities. Carlos Sierra-Gonzalez evaded police after he was spotted laying drag at Holcolmb Bridge Road and GA-400. After being chased by Roswell PD, Sierra-Gonzalez hit a structural brick column. Two passengers were ejected from his vehicle. One passenger died following the crash. The driver pled guilty to homicide by vehicle in the first degree and two counts of serious injury by vehicle.
