Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:
- Roswell is the largest city in the state of Georgia without a full-time fire department, but that is about to change. The city used to depend on volunteers and part time staff to run the department, but issues with this model were heavily exposed during the pandemic. According to Mayor Wilson, “we’ve known for 20 years that we need to make that transition to a full-time fire department." The Roswell FD will expand and transition to full-time positions during a five- year period. The first 19 full-time employees were sworn in on Tuesday, October 11. This transition to full-time staff will allow for faster and more efficient safety response times for the residents of Roswell. (11alive.com)
- An evaluation was done on Fulton County School's online academy, Fulton Academy of Virtual Excellence (FAVE). The school was developed from needs that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. This full-time remote learning school currently has 1,118 students enrolled for the current school year. The academy offers education to grades 3 through 11. The evaluation focused on the performance of teachers, administrators and students. The Professional Association of Georgia Education (PAGE) provided training to the staff that specifically focused on online teaching. (reporternewspapers.net)
- It's October in Roswell and the Ghost Tour is one of the many highlights of the month. The Roswell Ghosts Tour occurs in the darkness of night and explores many of the historic homes in Roswell. The tour continues to Town Square and then through Founders Cemetery. This is an exciting and unique experience in which you'll be able to discover Roswell's haunted history.(facebook.com)
