Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:

1. A 58-year old Roswell man and his son were killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Westbank Expressway in Louisiana on Sept. 2. While traveling in Louisiana, the pair was riding a motorized scooter when they were rear-ended by a pickup truck. The truck didn't stop, and their scooter was caught underneath the truck and dragged for a distance. Both victims succumbed to their injuries. State troopers in Louisiana are still investigating the incident, and are still looking for the driver who fled the scene. (www.wwltv.com)

2. A section of Mansell Road will be reduced to one lane starting on Wednesday September 7. Crews will be repaving the road, and the project is estimated to take two weeks. The section of Mansell Road from Alpharetta Highway to the Roswell city limits at Old Roswell Road as well as Sun Valley Road from Mansell Road to the roundabout is the focus of this project. Repaving is scheduled to take place overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be notices placed in the area to alert commuters of the work and Traffic Control will be onsite to direct traffic flow while the construction work is taking place. 3. Per the United States Patent and Trademark Office, ten US patents were granted in the city of Roswell in the month of August. The patents comprised of flexible multi-panel sterilization assembly with bolsters. The office granted the earliest patent to Thomas T. Meredith II who filed for his patent in December of 2021. There are a growing number of US patents being filed each year. According to Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog, the US patent system is mostly being used for medical innovations. (northfultontoday.com)

  • The City of Roswell: The Public Input Meeting to discuss the Community Needs Assessment Survey will be on Monday, September 19. The city still needs feedback from the residents of Roswell. You can either attend the meeting in person or you can take the survey online. The online survey is now available. This survey is needed for the city to complete the three required plans to submit to HUD in order to maintain the ability to administer the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.   • Music on the Hill: The city of Roswell will host Music on the Hill at City Hall. The concert will take place on Friday, September 9. The Geek Squad-Band is headlining this event.   • Keep Roswell Beautiful brings you The Great Annual Duck Race. Ducks are now available for sponsorship via online. When a duck is purchased, the sponsor will receive an email with your Ducks’ number(s). There will be cash prizes are for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Online sales will end on October 14.
