Roswell Meets Lambert in Home Opener

This week's high school sports roundup includes the upcoming weekend schedule in football, volleyball, softball and cross country.

After their rousing, season-opening win over Centennial last week, the Roswell Hornets will play their first home game of the season against Lambert on Friday. 

Roswell (1-0) also won its first game under new coach John Ford in a 39-30 thriller on the road. Senior quarterback Matt Cory threw three touchdown passes and running backs Kendrick Jackson and Shakur Jackson each added a rushing touchdown for the Hornets.


Friday's game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at The Hornet's Nest. Lambert is 0-1 after a 24-7 loss to Etowah last week. 

Centenntial plays at Etowah in a game that also starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday. 

Fellowship Christian, which won its opener last week over Lakeview, is on the road on Friday, playing at Towns County (0-1) at 7:30 p.m.

Volleyball

Roswell, ranked No. 7 in this week's Score Atlanta Class 6A poll, are off to a 15-4 start, and have won their last six matches in a row by 2-0 scores. 

The Hornets, who haven't played since last weekend, are competing in the Lovett Block Party Friday and Saturday. On Tuesday, they play Cherokee and No. 1 Walton. 

Centennial, which is 14-4 but unranked in 6A, play at home Saturday against Riverwood and Woodstock. 

Fellowship Christian is 10-2 and also has a six-match winning streak after beating King's Ridge Christian and Pace Academy this week. The Lady Paladins play next Tuesday against Holy Innocents' and Pinecrest Academy.

Softball 

Fellowship Christian has compiled a 10-2 record, including six wins in a row, and plays Tuesday against Holy Innocents.'

Centennial, 1-5 before Thursday's game with Johns Creek, plays Monday against Meadowcreek and Tuesday against Alpharetta. 

Roswell was 1-9 before Thursday's game against Walton and will play this weekend in the Pink-Out tournament in Forsyth County.

Cross Country

Roswell High School will play host once again to the Covered Bridge Invitational, which starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Garrard Park, 8000 Holcomb Bridge Road. 

Centennial is also participating.
