1. The City Council accepted the 2022 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Community Policing Development microgrant. The microgrant totals $120,000 and will be allocated to the Roswell PD. This money is to be used by the department for the creation of a Latino Citizens’ Police Academy. In two five-week programs, a class of 25 Latino students will be introduced to the ins-and-outs of police work and its purpose. This program will be modeled after the existing Citizens’ Police Academy. Some of the departments that students will be introduced to are the 9-1-1 Center, the Criminal Investigations Division, the K-9 operations unit, the Office of Professional Standards and the Special Operations Unit. This free program will be open to residents and business owners within the city who are 18 years of age or older. (Paywall: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
