Roswell Public Safety Officers Honored at Centennial High School
The SADD Club and law & justice program give thanks during Red Ribbon Week.

From Centennial High School:
ROSWELL, GA - Centennial High School hosted a special program and luncheon to honor the Roswell Police Department, Roswell Fire Department, Fulton County Police Officers and members of the Bar Association on Tuesday, October 18. Roughly seventy people attended the presentation to honor twelve public safety officers who attended the event and received a plaque of appreciation and poem to thank them for the work they do in our community.
“The idea for this event came from our Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club, as part of our Red Ribbon Week activities,” said Kibbey Crumbley, Principal of Centennial High School. “I was thrilled to be a part of honoring our men and women in uniform.” Students from the school’s Law & Justice Program and its Skills USA program also helped to plan and host the event and enjoyed spending time with local officers to learn more about those career paths.

Red Ribbon Week began in the late 1980’s to honor DEA Special Agent Enrique S. Camarena who was close to unlocking a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline when he was kidnapped at gun point. His body was found a month later. His family and friends began wearing red ribbons to honor Camarena and his war on drugs.
Centennial’s SADD Club members worked with the PTSA to plan an entire week of events to promote Red Ribbon Week at the school. In addition to the luncheon for Public Safety Officers, the Club is collecting socks and diapers all week for the Giving Children a Chance foster care organization.
