Here are the top stories today in Roswell:

  1. A group of burglars posed as land surveyors and distracted a retired Roswell couple while robbing their home of valuables. The incident was reported by the couple to the Roswell Police Department on Thursday, October 20. They reported that two men came their home in the Willow Springs subdivision and stated that they were hired by the city to do a survey on their house. The men were wearing reflective vest and had walkie-talkies with them. The couple was asked to lead the men to the backyard to show them their property line and to wait for the arrival of a drone that would take video and measurements. According to the homeowners, "They sent another crew of one or two to search the house, and on the walkie-talkie he was asking, ‘How much more time do you need?’” The couple became suspicious, however, by the time police were called, the thieves had left. Valuable jewelry and family heirlooms were taken. The Roswell PD is currently investigating the crime and are looking for witnesses, video of the incident, and the car the suspects were driving.(wsbtv.com)
  2. A team from Fulton County will be traveling around the county beginning today to promote its National Vote Early Weekend. October 28 is officially National Vote Early Day, which is a civic holiday that was founded by national nonprofits, businesses, election administrators, and influencers. Their goal is to make sure that all voters have the equipment, resources, and knowledge to cast an early ballot for the upcoming midterm election and future elections. Fulton County representatives will visit Roswell on Saturday, October 29. The team will be at two locations: 570 E. Crossville Rd. and 970 Mansell Rd. from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. (fultoncountyga.gov)
  3. There was another structural fire in Roswell on Thursday, October 27. The Roswell Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Wildwood Springs Dr. in Roswell. The home lies between Indian Stream Trail and Flowing Spring Trail. Residents were asked to avoid this area while fire crews extinguished the flames. No injuries or fatalities were reported. A cause of the fire was not noted at this time. (facebook.com)
  4. A large number of parents in North Fulton recently met at Alpharetta High School for a public meeting to discuss the redistricting plan proposed by the Fulton County School System. Their new attendance zoning maps will affect most schools in North Fulton. Officials from the school district say their proposed changes are necessity due to lingering imbalances between enrollment and capacity in North Fulton County elementary and middle schools. Many parents do not believe these decisions are being applied fairly and that the district is not considering the families who spent years of planning for, and will gravely impact families who moved to their current neighborhoods specifically for a targeted school for their students. The first read of the district's proposed plan will go before the board on November 8, and they will make their final action plan on December 15. (northfultontoday.com)
